Carol Ferguson

Carol has been painting for seven years. She dabbled in it a few years prior but got busy with having children. She returned to it after her last child went to school. It was such bliss to return to something that completely absorbed her and fulfilled her in a way that nothing else can. She has exhibited several times and several of her pieces are held in private collections throughout New Zealand.

An artist from Auckland and painting mainly in oils, Carol shares a studio with five other great women artists. She balances this with being a mother to three daughters and with the world of research which continues to fascinate her and helps to pay the bills.

Painting has been a big part of her life for nine years – working in the studio is where she feels those moments of “flow” that tell her she is exactly where she should be.

Carol's paintings have always reflected back her current state of mind, her emotions and her preoccupations. Her new series of works which form part of the Studio 6 Unfolding exhibition continue this. These latest paintings have the organic forms she always uses in her work, but her hope is that they feel fresh and playful.

Carol wants to express a feeling of life, vibrancy and happiness in her work. Her work has always been about conveying a mood, the interplay of light, shadow and depth as well as a delicacy of form. This still feels true but she also wants to convey a feeling ultimately of optimism because it is so important, now more than ever.
